Competition heats up for app-based ride-hailing market

Just when the app-based ride-hailing market in HCMC was trying to cool down following the recent significant debut of the giant Go-Jek, locally named Go-Viet, another local firm, Go-ixe, has announced plans to join the ride-hailing race, promising to offer quality services at competitive prices, reported the local media.

The municipal Department of Transport and Go-ixe Software Technology Co., Ltd. has recently co-organized a press briefing to announce the upcoming pilot operations of Go-ixe in the city.

Despite being a latecomer, Go-ixe is confident in its services. Notably, it pledges to collect lower fares than its competitors, not only meeting the demand of customers but also guaranteeing stable incomes for its driver-partners, according to Nguyen Tri Luan, general director of Go-ixe.

In addition, Go-ixe has teamed up with local telecom carrier Viettel to offer smartphones and Internet services to drivers at reasonable prices, especially powerful 4G services, enabling them to receive bookings within five to eight seconds. It has also partnered with Bao Viet insurance firm to provide 24-hour economy insurance packages for drivers.

Luan added that Go-ixe will cooperate with other partners, such as banks and transport operators, to offer preferential policies for the drivers.

As for manpower, the ride-hailing firm has signed labor contracts with only qualified drivers, who have been selected after passing its training sessions, aimed at providing quality services and a pleasant experience to its users.

Launched in 2016, Go-ixe stood out from the current giants in the ride-hailing market, such as Grab and Go-Viet, by penetrating niche markets in eight provinces across the country, instead of major cities, including Bac Giang, Thanh Hoa, Can Tho, An Giang and Soc Trang, offering three services: Go-Bike, Go-Car and Go-Taxi.

These localities remain untouched by the giants, which has allowed Go-ixe to avail of multiple opportunities to introduce the ride-hailing technology to the local people, position its brand and enhance its services. Luan added that Go-ixe has made careful preparations and adopted appropriate strategies to effectively compete with its foreign-invested rivals, which are both financially and technologically powerful.

According to a representative of the transport department, Go-ixe was developed in line with Decision No.24 issued by the Ministry of Transport on executing pilot operations for a science and technology app to support the management of and connection between passenger transport modes in the city. Available services provided by Go-ixe are Go-Bike, Go-Taxi, Go-Car, Go-Travel and Go-Share.

The ride-hailing market is expected to witness stiffer competition as both foreign and local firms are constantly launching new preferential services to attract customers and win a larger market share.
