The General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nong Duc Manh, on April 26 met with Timor Leste’s President Jose Ramos Horta, who is on a working visit to Vietnam.

At the meeting, the Party leader expressed his belief that the visit paid by President Horta would open up a new stage for the two countries’ friendly and cooperative relations.

He extended his congratulations on the government and people of Timor Leste’s achievements in their national construction process and their efforts to strengthen international ties.

He said he is pleased with the two countries’ rapid development in trade ties and believes that the signing of a framework agreement on economic and technological cooperation would create favourable conditions for bilateral relations to grow strongly in the future.

For his part, President Horta thanked the Vietnamese people for the great support given to Timor Leste over the years while expressing his wish that the country would continue to assist and share with his country experiences in national construction and development.

He stressed that Timor Leste treasures its ties with Vietnam and wishes to bolster multi-faceted cooperation, especially in the fields of Vietnam’s strengths such as agriculture, power, oil and gas and human resources.
