About 15,000 people will join a charity walk in Ho Chi Minh City on January 20 to raise funds for the poor in the city.

The third annual Lawrence S. Ting charity walk, co-organized by Phu My Hung Joint Venture Co., the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s HCM City chapter, and the District 7 People’s Committee, will take place over a 4km section in the city’s District 7.

Participants will include local residents and foreigners who are living and working in Vietnam.

The organizers said contributions will also come from the CT&D group, businesses and residents in the Phu My Hung suburb.

Some 200,000 people are living in abject poverty in HCM City. They include 5,000 disabled children and infirm elderly, who need a total of VND50 billion (US$3.1 million) per year for living.
