Vietnam lose to Thailand in Jenesys football event

VOV.VN - Vietnam’s U17 football team lost to Thailand at the Jenesys 2018 international tournament in Japan on October 8 and finished fourth in the competition.

Thai players opened the scoring in the 25th minute. Despite many efforts on goal, the Vietnamese team led by coach Dinh The Nam, could not score any goals in the first half.

In the second half, there were 5 clear chances for Vietnamese players to grab a goal, however they couldn’t capitalize on their chances. In the last few minutes of the game though Bui Tien Sinh managed to equalize the score to 1-1 in the 86th minute.

After playing out extra time the score still remained deadlocked at 1-1. It came down to a nerve-wracking penalty shootout to decide the winner and loser with Thailand’s U17s winning it.

The Vietnamese team placed fourth in the final rankings of the Jenesys 2018 international tournament.

The tournament is a warm up for Vietnam ahead of the 2019 AFF U18 Youth Championship and the 2020 AFC U19 Championship qualification.
