Deputy Defence Minister Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh made the statement during a reception in Hanoi on October 9 for the visiting Assistant Secretary of Defence for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs in the US Government, Randall Schriver.

As one of the typical examples for the growing defence cooperation, both sides have launched a project on dioxin contamination remediation at Bien Hoa airport in the southern province of Dong Nai after the success of a similar project at Da Nang airport in the central region.

The two sides also signed an agreement on the US-funded project to support people with disabilities in seven Vietnamese localities which were severely affected by Agent Orange/dioxin, Vinh noted.

Schriver, for his part, conveyed US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper’s wish to visit Vietnam as early as possible.

He told his host that through the visit, the two countries will put forth many specific cooperation activities and programmes aiming to deepen bilateral defence cooperation in a practical and effective manner, in line with the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership.
