33 more workers move to Egypt from war-torn Libya

(VOV) - A group of 33 Vietnamese workers have been evacuated to Egypt safely by land, the Vietnamese Embassy in Egypt announced on August 16.

These labourers were sent to work in Ajdabya city, north east of Libya, by the Vietnam Manpower Supply and Commercial Joint Stock Company (Vinamex).

Their employer, Al-Mankh civil engineering company, on August 15 hired a bus to transport these workers to Salloum border gate between Libya and Egypt, about 530km from Ajdabya.

After immigration procedures cleared, the Vietnamese embassy hired a bus to bring them to capital Cairo. These workers are scheduled to take an Egypt Air flight at 23.35 on August 17 to Bangkok where they will transit and fly to Vietnam via a Vietnam Airlines plane the following day.

On August 4, the first group of Vietnamese workers travelled by bus to Egypt from Benghazi warzone. However, they were left stranded four days at the Salloum border gate and were only allowed to cross the border into Egypt with interventions from the Vietnamese Embassy in Egypt.

More than 1,300 Vietnamese workers have left Libya, according to Vietnamese ambassador to Libya Dao Duy Tien.

Nearly 470 others are still in this North African nation, of whom 332 have yet to flee the nation. About 103 workers in the southern city are scheduled to leave Libya from August 20-29.
