Severe cold to hit northern Vietnam this week, temperatures to fall sharply

VOV.VN - The northern region of Vietnam is expected to experience the strongest cold this winter this weekend after warm weekdays, according to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

Over the past few days, northern localities have been cloudy and foggy in the early mornings due to the impact of the weakened cold air and easterly deviations coupled with humid winds flowing in from the sea.

A weak cold air is forecast to hit the northern region on November 11 evening, bringing rain to the region, with temperatures ranging between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius.

Northern localities are likely to brace for a strong cold spell as from December 17 that will cause temperatures to drop by more than 10 degrees Celsius.

Weather experts say this will be the strongest cold spell this winter in Vietnam. The average daily temperature will likely be 15 degrees Celsius or less in the plains and midlands and 13 degrees Celsius or less in the highlands.

Notably, localities with an altitude of more than 1,500m such as Sa Pa, a famous tourist destination in northern Vietnam, will experience severe cold, with temperatures to fall to 2-9 degrees Celsius.

According to weather experts, there will probably be two severe cold spells to hit northern Vietnam in December 2023.
