Heat wave intensifies before a cold spell hits
The current heat wave which is hitting northern and central regions is forecast to intensify before a cold spell hits the regions, the National Hydrometeorological Forecasting Centre reported on April 24.
The heat wave has spread across the northern and north-central regions during the past few days, with temperatures ranging from 35 to 38 degrees Celsius, with some places even suffering a high of 39 degrees Celsius.
Local residents in the affected areas can expect to endure between 12 – 17 hours of temperatures over 35 degrees, coupled with low humidity of between 45% - 60%.
Ultraviolet (UV) indexes in the regions are forecast to reach extremely high levels of 9 and 10, raising the risk of skin damage occurring through direct sunlight.
People are therefore advised to apply sun cream, wear sunglasses, and don protective clothes when going outside, whilst also refraining from going outside at peak times.
However, the heat wave is forecast to subside and dissipate by late April 25 when a mild cold spell hits northern Vietnam, bringing heavy rain. Rain will then lash across the northern and north-central regions, causing temperatures to tumble sharply.
