Vietnam, US look towards stronger partnership

VOV.VN - Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Pham Quang Vinh on March 1 hosted a banquet for Susan Thornton, Acting Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs on the occasion of the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival. 

The event also saw the attendance of Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Southeast Asia Patrick Murphy.

Ambassador Vinh and his guests praised the achievements in Vietnam-US relations in 2017 with the US visit by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in May and President Donald Trump’s Vietnam visit in November. 

Ms. Thornton said the US treasures cooperation and partnership with Vietnam bilaterally and with regards to global issues of mutual concern. 

Both diplomats consented to elevate the two countries’ relations in 2018, implement high-level agreements, and further boost their comprehensive partnership. 

The Vietnamese Embassy and the US Department of State will also maitain close coordination to support cooperation activities, they said.

On the occasion of the Lunar New Year, Vinh extended the best wishes to Acting Assistant Secretary of State Susan Thornton, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Patrick Murphy, and US Department staff.
