Amended Housing Law helps overseas Vietnamese own homes in Vietnam
The NA Economic Committee held a meeting in Hanoi on February 18 to collect opinions on the amendments and supplements to the article 126 of the draft Housing Law and article 121 of the Land Law.
Under the amended article 126 of the Housing Law, overseas Vietnamese eligible to buy a house in Vietnam will include scientists and cultural experts who have no need to return to work in Vietnam frequently, people having specialized skills that Vietnam needs, and those married to Vietnamese citizens. Visa exemptions will be applied to all overseas Vietnamese.
Some have said that the amended article is not reasonable as it will force domestic housing prices upward, creating difficulties for Vietnamese residents seeking to buy.
Deputy NA Chairman Nguyen Duc Kien said that the amendments and supplements to the article 126 of the Housing Law and the article 121 of the Land Law aims to clarify issues relating to home ownership rights of Vietnamese nationals living abroad and limit speculation situation in the country.
