Seminar discusses Sweden-Vietnam partnership

A seminar was held in HCM City on June 16 to discuss the sustainable development of Sweden-Vietnam partnership.

The Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, Nguyen Trung Tin, said that the negative impact of socioeconomic development on the environment is a common challenge for Vietnam in general and HCM City in particularly. He emphasized that HCM City has built a strategy for environment protection, response to climate change and closer cooperation with other nations in the region.

Addressing the seminar, Swedish ambassador to Vietnam Staffan Herrstrom emphasized that the event will contribute to further strengthening cooperation between the two countries in protecting the environment and raising public awareness of the need to adapt to climate change.

He added that both countries have great potential for trade cooperation with two-way turnover increasing by 80 percent since 2005. At present, around 80 Swedish companies are operating in Vietnam.

Participants also discussed solutions to use renewable energy, and forms of clean energy to treat waste effectively in future and proposed measures to boost cooperation between localities of Sweden and Vietnam.

The event was co-organised by the municipal People’s Committee and the Swedish embassy.
