Can Tho to host southern traditional cake festival

VOV.VN - Hundreds of traditional cakes from localities across the southern region will be displayed at the annual southern cake festival which will run from April 28 to May 2 in the Mekong Delta region city of Can Tho.

The purpose of the occasion is to preserve and celebrate southern traditional cakes, whilst building a trademark for them.

More than 200 food stalls by both artisans and businesses based in Can Tho city and 18 provinces and cities throughout the region will take part in the festival.

Visitors will have a chance to sample hundreds of kinds of traditional cakes, such as Bánh tét (a cylindrical glutinous rice cake filled with green bean paste and pork), Bánh bò dừa (coconut-flavoured sponge cake), Bánh ú (small glutinous pyramid shape cake), and Bánh đúc (rice cake cooked with lime juice).

Highlights of the festival include a cake-offering ceremony which aims to commemorate the Hung Kings Temple Festival and a traditional cake-making competition.

Furthermore, the function will also serve to include a fair displaying One Commune One Product (OCOP) products of cities and provinces in the southern region, art performances, and exciting folk games.
