Vietnam Ao Dai Week to celebrate International Women's Day
VOV.VN - Thousands of women across the nation will dress up in Ao Dai (traditional long dress) in support of Vietnam Ao Dai Week from March 1 to March 8 as they celebrate the 114th anniversary of International Women’s Day.
The week-long event aims to raise individual awareness and people's pride and responsibility in terms of preserving and promoting the traditional costume which is regarded as part of national cultural heritage.
Several cultural activities related to Ao Dai, such as a photo contest and a pageant, will be held. In particular, a programme with the theme of "Ao Dai zero dong" will be organized with the goal of bringing joy to many poor and disadvantaged women who now have a chance to own the traditional dress.
The highlight of the week will be a fashion show, drawing the participation of wives of foreign ambassadors from nations such as Morocco, the Czech Republic, and Indonesia.
The event will feature Ao Dai collections which draw inspiration from famous heritage sites, Vietnamese landscapes, national flags, and diplomatic relations between Vietnam and foreign countries.
Ao Dai Week arranged by the Vietnam Women's Union aims to encourage women to wear an Ao Dai between March 1 and March 8 to show the charm and elegant beauty of the dress.
