Huge potential for promoting Vietnam-Greece cooperation

VOV.VN - Leaders of Greek political parties and representatives from competent agencies have affirmed their recognition of the great importance of the policy of strengthening ties with Vietnam, especially in terms of economics, trade, and tourism.

Phan Dinh Trac, Politburo member and chairman of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee’s Commission for Internal Affairs, led a delegation on a working visit to Greece from July 2 to July 7 following their visit to Switzerland.

During the course of their trip, the delegation had a host of meetings with leaders of political parties, as well as representatives of functional agencies of Greece, and met with officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in the host nation.

Trac congratulated the Greek side on successfully organizing the National Assembly election in recent times, as well as the Government and people of Greece recording achievements in economic recovery and development, especially amid the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and energy crisis.

He stated that the Vietnamese Party, State, and people always places importance on the strong traditional relations that exists between the two countries and thanked the Greek people for their support for the Vietnamese side in historic struggles for national independence, as well as the current cause of national construction and defence.

He also thanked Greece for being one of the first member states of the EU to ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).

The Vietnamese Party official went on to express his delight at the positive development of relations between the two countries, as well as the significant increase in two-way trade over recent years. He therefore assessed that there is ample room for both sides to step up co-operation across a variety of fields moving forward.

Trac also shared information regarding the situation and achievements in socio-economic development that Vietnam has recorded after nearly 40 years of carrying out the Doi Moi (Renewal) process, specifically the nation’s foreign policy and national development goals and strategies adopted at the 13th National Party Congress.  He also touched upon some results achieved in anti-corruption work over recent years.

Leaders of Greek political parties and competent agencies briefed the Vietnamese delegation on the current situation in Greece, as well as its numerous political, economic, and social achievements in recent years, especially the successful organization of the National Assembly elections.

They highlighted the strong time-honoured relations with Vietnam and the support that the Greek people have always given to the Vietnamese side.

Congratulating the nation on its development achievements, they assessed that Vietnam serves as a model of success and expressed their confidence in the country’s bright development prospects in the time ahead.

Greece therefore affirmed that it places importance on the policy of strengthening ties with Vietnam in economics, trade, tourism, and shipping, whilst it stands ready to receive Vietnamese workers in Greece.

The two sides had an in-depth discussion on experience, guidelines, policies, and measures related to anti-corruption work, subsequently agreeing to bolster collaboration between relevant agencies of both sides in this field.

They also exchanged views on international issues of mutual concern and shared a principled stance on settling disputes by peaceful means in compliance with international law and the UN Charter.

Talking to Vietnamese Embassy staff, Trac praised their efforts, while suggesting that they strive to complete all assigned tasks as a contribution to enhancing the friendship and bilateral ties.
