The fourth Vietnam ICT in Finance Conference & Exhibition will take place in Hanoi from September 18-21, with a view to promoting the application of information and communication technology (ICT) in the financial sector during the international integration process.

The annual event will be co-organized by the Department of Financial Informatics and Statistics (DFIS) under the Ministry of Finance and the International Data Group in Vietnam (IDG Vietnam), according to a press conference in Hanoi on July 12.

Held for the fourth time, Vietnam ICT in Finance 2007 will continue to emphasize its role in serving as an annual international ICT forum in Vietnam. The Conference & Exhibition is carried out on a large scale, becoming an event that draws due attention of many policy-makers, experts, organizations and enterprises inside and outside the country.

Speaking at the press briefing, DFIS General Director Dang Duc Mai said that during the international integration process, it is essential to speed up the application of ICT in the financial sector to renovate and improve the financial system. This is also the biggest objective that Vietnam ICT in Finance aims to achieve.

With the theme “ICT for financial services” the two-day Conference will focus on six key sessions and presentations of more than 40 leading speakers aimed at providing attendees with a comprehensive outlook of ICT application in the financial sector, as well as challenges and opportunities for the sector in the post-WTO era. Senior speakers from the Finance Ministry will outline policies and strategies for financial service development in the next several years.

The Exhibition running concurrent with the Conference will introduce latest products, solutions and models from leading ICT businesses, as well as new trends of development and experience in ICT application to increase the quality of financial services.

IDG President Patrick J. McGovern stressed that it is essential to boost ICT application in the financial sector, especially in securities trading, tax, customs and public administration services as Vietnam has taken part in the global market. Being an official WTO member gives Vietnam both opportunities and challenges. If Vietnam successfully applies ICT in the financial sector, the country can increase its competitive capacity and advantages, he added.
