Nineteen publicly-funded universities and colleges are permitted  transition into private funding under a recent decision by the Prime Minister.

The universities and colleges, most of which are located in Hanoi, Hai Phong and Ho Chi Minh City, will operate under private university regulations.

The PM entrusted the Minister of Education and Training to coordinate with relevant ministries and agencies to provide guides on the transformation, which must be in accordance with existing laws and the regulations on the structure and operation of private universities.

He also required the transformations to be completed before June 30, 2007.
