The 2007 Sea Festival, the third of its kind, will open in Nha Trang city, central coastal Khanh Hoa province, from June 9-15. Preparations are well underway to offer visitors the best chance to enjoy the festival.

According to the organizing board, there will be around 50 activities during the week-long festival, including cultural exchanges, sport competitions, fairs and workshops. Of the events, the “Sea Night” carnival will be the highlight of the festival which is expected to attract 1,200 artists and students to feature special characteristics of Nha Trang City and Khanh Hoa province through street performances, fashion shows and flower parades.

Director Binh Hung said the three-hour carnival will be a test for festivals in general and the Sea Festival in particular, in which musicians, dancers and even spectators will be performers.

Along Nha Trang beach - the main venue for cultural activities during the festival, visitors will be introduced to the cultural traditions of Vietnam and other countries in the world.

A cuisine contest for professional cooks will take place right on the beach with the participation of 17 travel agents and some famous cooks from Ho Chi Minh City and southern Binh Thuan province to introduce traditional dishes, particularly sea dishes.

The first two sea festivals were organized in 2003 and 2005.
