A get-together was held in HCM City on May 3 to celebrate Buddha’s 2550th birthday. Among participants were dignitaries from the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) and the Municipal Buddhist Association.

Speaking at the function, Chairman of the HCM City Fatherland Front Committee Tran Thanh Long highlighted the great contributions made by Vietnamese Buddhists to the cause of national liberation and construction.

The Most Venerable Thich Tri Quang, Vice President of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Executive Council, said in line with Party and State’s policies on freedom of belief and great national unity, VBS has developed considerably in recent years. Monks and nuns have greatly contributed to the common cause of the country.

Being a representative of Vietnamese Buddhism at the World Buddha Birthday festival held in Bangkok from May 7-10, the Vietnamese Buddhism delegation will organise activities to advocate Vietnam’s policies on religion in general and on Buddhism in particular.
