Vietnamese young people in France should continue to do more to introduce the image of Vietnamese people and land to the French community, said Nguyen Quoc Dung, Vice Chairman of the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs (COVA).

Mr Dung made the suggestion while receiving a delegation from the Vietnamese young people’s association in France (Union des Jeunes Vietnamiens en France - UJVF) on June 12 during their visit to Vietnam to join the Hue 2008 Festival.

He spoke highly of contributions by overseas Vietnamese in France to their homeland in recent times and briefed teh guets on Vietnams’ rêcnt achievements, as well as the Party and State’s policies towards the Vietnamese community abroad in general and young Vietnamese in particular.

UJVF president Nguyen Minh Man said he was happy to join the Hue Festival for the first time. The delegation’s hip-hop dancing which is popular in Western countries and traditional performance by Thai ethnic minority people demonstrated the cultural exchange between modern and traditional cultures of Vietnam and France, he added.

Since its establishment in 1975, the association há organized many activities, such as introducing Vietnamese culture in France, teaching the Vietnamese language, providing financial assistance to poor outstanding Vietnamese students and promoting cooperation between young Vietnamese and French people. They also presented gifts to poor children in central Da Nang city, visited and assisted Vietnamese Agent Orange children in south-central Phu Yen province and took part in the green summer campaign in the Mekong Delta provinces of Ben Tre and Tra Vinh.
