Philippines, Vietnam beef up peacekeeping cooperation

(VOV) -The armies of Vietnam and the Philippines boast huge potential for bilateral cooperation in various fields, including the United Nations peacekeeping, said Lieut. Sen. Vo Van Tuan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA).

At a recent reception in Hanoi for a delegation from the Armed Forces of the Philippines Peacekeeping Operations Centre (AAPTC) headed by Colonel Roberto T.Ancan, Tuan said Vietnam is currently preparing to establish a field hospital and dispatch sappers to the UN peacekeeping missions.

Tuan, who is also Deputy Head of the Defence Ministry’s Steering Committee for Peacekeeping, said he hopes the AAPTC will share experience and provide support for the Vietnam Peacekeeping Centre (VPC) in personnel training.

The AAPTC delegation had a working session with the VPC during which the both sides discussed measures for future collaboration in the field.

Earlier on October 26, the VPC, the 175 Military Hospital and Australia’s Peace Operations Training Centre co-hosted a seminar on operation of field hospitals at the UN’s peacekeeping missions.
