Putin wants stronger military cooperation with Vietnam

(VOV) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has insisted on bringing military and technical cooperation with the BRICS group (Brazil, India, China and South Africa) and Vietnam to a higher level.

In his speech at the October 17 session of the Russian Committee for Military Technical Cooperation in the vicinity of Moscow, President Putin said the aim is to shift from its normal trade exchange to closer cooperation in researching and manufacturing weapons and military equipment, setting up firearms service centres and exporting weapons and military equipment to third countries.

The BRICS countries which account for 43 percent of the global population are considered dynamically developing economies.

Putin said Russia regards Vietnam as one of its important partners and both countries are cooperating efficiently in military and technical areas.

By early October this year, Russia has exported US$10.7 billion worth of weapons and military equipment, meeting 80 percent of its yearly plan, Putin added.
