In 2007, around 250 media agencies dispatched more than 1,000 reporters to island areas to disseminate information about the Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago and oil and gas exploration activities.

In the propaganda campaign for the lunar New Year Festival 2008 alone, more than 100 reporters came to visit cadres and soldiers living on these islands. The quality of radio and TV programmes and other journalistic works has been highly appreciated including those broadcast over Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV).
