Vietnamese badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh on April 4 easily defeated Kaveh Mehrabi from Iran 2-0 to enter round 16 of an ongoing Yonex badminton tournament in Sydney.

This is Minh’s second consecutive win at the 2012 Yonex Australian Badminton Open taking place in Sydney from April 3-8.

In a good physical form, Minh (World No12) outperformed his Iranian opponent Kaveh Mehrabi (World No89) in two games with the scores of 21-8 and 21-4.

In the first round, Minh, the fourth seeded player of the tournament, also easily overwhelmed his host player Nelson Oon (World No225) in two games after 21 minutes.   

In Round 16 on April 5, Minh will play Kwong Beng Chan from Malaysia (World No79). The Vietnamese player outclassed this Malaysian opponent 2-1 at the 2009 Vietnam Challenger three years ago.  

Meanwhile, mens’ duo Bang Duc and Manh Thang from Vietnam (World No 54) said farewell to the tournament on April 4 after losing 0-2 to their Thai opponents Nipitphon and Patipat (World No 41).

Minh, Duc and Thang are three Vietnamese players competing at the Yonex Australian Badminton Open which has awards worth US$120,000 in total.
