New Zealand has pledged to give Vietnam technical support in the fields of agriculture and rural development, natural resources and environments.

The Vietnam-New Zealand Joint Committee for Economic and Trade Cooperation held its third session in Wellington, New Zealand, on February 25 focusing on diplomatic ties, trade, investment, agriculture, education and training, natural resources and the environments and science and technology.

Held every two years, the sessions are an important mechanism for boosting economic and trade relations between the two countries.

New Zealand expressed appreciation for business and investment opportunities in Vietnam in education and training, forestry, and building material production. The two sides agreed to gradually improve the trade balance and reduce Vietnam’s trade deficit.

New Zealand pledged support for Vietnam at both regional and global forums and to enhance cooperation in finance and customs.

The two sides agreed to organize practical activities to mark the 35th anniversary of their diplomatic ties. New Zealand will hold a seminar in Auckland in April to introduce its entrepreneurs to potential areas for investment and business in Vietnam and other ASEAN countries.

Vietnam will hold a similar seminar in HCM City to introduce the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Area (AANZFTA) to Vietnamese businesses and will invite New Zealand partners to visit Vietnam for exchange activities in the near future.
