Governor of Rio de Janeiro State Sergio Cabral Filho warmly welcomed Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh’s visit to Brazil at a reception on May 28, saying that his State wants to strengthen multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam, particularly in trade, culture, tourism and sports.

The Governor expressed his admiration for the Vietnamese people’s past struggle for national independence, freedom and reunification as well as their recent important achievements in national development.

He said over the past years he has followed with keen interest the development of cooperation and investment between organisations and individuals of the State and Vietnam. As the country’s second biggest economic centre which has a big seaport and airport, oil and gas potential, shipbuilding industry and tourism services, Rio de Janeiro can serve as an important bridge between Vietnam and Brazil and Latin America as well, said the Governor.

Mr Manh congratulated the State’s achievements in recent times and stressed that despite geographical distance, the two countries have plenty of opportunities to develop cooperation in various areas such as economics, trade, tourism and energy.

“This will greatly contribute to boosting multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Brazil towards stability and sustainability,” said Mr Manh.

The Vietnamese Party leader invited the Governor to visit Vietnam to explore investment and cooperation opportunities.

Earlier, Mr Manh attended the opening of the Brazil-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce in Rio de Janeiro, which drew the participation of leading Brazilian businesses.

In his address, Mr Manh said the inauguration of the chamber is of great significance as it shows that the two countries’ leaders are keen to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in economics, trade and investment, which yet to match their potential.

He briefed participants on Vietnam’s ongoing Doi Moi (Renewal) process and affirmed that Vietnam is a friendly and safe destination for international investors.

In the morning of May 29, Mr Manh left Rio de Janeiro for Brasilia capital where he was welcomed by President Lula da Silva.
