Vietnam’s national team drew their match with Uzbekistan’s U23 squad 2-2 in the opening game of the VTV-T&T Cup at My Dinh Stadium on April 16.

Vietnam had a good start with a goal scored by striker Phan Thanh Binh. Uzbekistan later evened and made the sore 2-1 in their favour before captain Nguyen Minh Phuong of Vietnam equalized the match in the 65th minute.

In another match the same day, U23 Australia were held to a goalless draw by U23 Iran who dominated the match. Iran would have won the match if Zatollah Shic Reza Khonakdar had scored from a penalty shot.

The tournament has attracted U23 teams from Australia, Uzbekistan, Iran and Vietnam competing in a round robin format for the championship.

The cup winner will receive a trophy and US$40,000 as prize money, while the runner-up and third place teams will pocket US$20,000 and US$10,000, respectively.
