Various activities were celebrated nationwide on November 15 to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam National United Front, now called the Vietnam Fatherland Front (November 18).

In Nghe An, activities to celebrate the day encouraged local people to respond to the campaign and patriotic emulation movement and corporate to achieve targets set at the 17th provincial Party Committee’s Congress.

Thanks to the Nghe An Fatherland Front committee’s great contribution, the province has seen significant socio-economic development and ensured defence and security. The poverty rate has reduced from 14.36 percent in 2009 to 10.5 percent in 2010, and 80 percent of Nghe An families are recognised as “cultural families”.

In response to the “Fund for the Poor” campaign in 2010, the Nghe An VFF raised more than VND19.5 billion to build and repair 1,500 houses for the poor. The province also donated VND40 billion in goods and cash to the flood-hit region recently.

Speaking at the celebration in Phu Tho province, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, Nguyen Doan Khanh emphasised the need to reform the operation of the provincial VFF committee.

Since the beginning of 2010, the Phu Tho provincial VFF committee has raised more than VND102  billion to build 7,000 houses for the poor.

On the same day, the anniversary was celebrated in Nam Dinh, Dien Bien, and Tuyen Quang provinces.
