The Vietnam Administration of Tourism (VAT) has recently held a meeting to discuss promotion activities to attract Chinese tourists to Vietnam in the future.

The activities include abolishing double checks for visitors to Vietnam under the Public Security Ministry's Regulation 849/2004/QD-BCA on organising and administrating Chinese citizens who use Chinese-granted visas for visiting Vietnam and allowing Chinese tourists using tourist cards to travel on domestic flights of the Vietnam Airlines.

The number of Chinese tourists to Vietnam have dropped sharply recently, especially when China stopped granting entry-exit visas for 14 countries sharing the borders with China.

In 2005, the number of tourists to Vietnam decreased by 8 percent. In the first three months of 2006, some 12,596 Chinese tourists came to Vietnam, accounting for 38.53 percent against the same period last year.
