Autumn Book Festival nurtures reading habit

VOV.VN -This year’s annual Autumn Book Festival displayed thousands of book titles from 70 publishing houses and book companies.

Besides selling books, the festival had many interesting activities to inspire the reading habit in children and young people.

Book Festival visitors inspected books, talked to authors, and joined book discussions. Dang Thanh Giang, children’s book editor with the Nha Nam Book and Communications Company, said: We organize activities where parents and their children read books together to rekindle their love for books.

Children 4 to 5 years old should start by reading picture books. They will be inspired and develop a reading habit.”

The Youth Publishing House and Tan Viet and Dinh Ty Book Companies introduced children’s books by Vietnamese authors and new books on history, literature, and natural science with eye-catching covers.

One young visitor: “The festival has many books for children and I’m very excited. This is a book called “A war between two worlds”. I prefer science fiction books. Books help me learn better at school.”

Pham The Khang, President of the Vietnam Library Association, said book events such as the Autumn Book Festival, the Spring Book Festival, Books and Heritages, the Old Books Festival, and Vietnam’s Book Day have influenced young people.

“The Prime Minister’s message for Vietnam’s Book Day has been turned into action by leaders all levels. The leaders and the whole society have encouraged young people to spend more time on books.”

The Autumn Book Festival, the year’s biggest book event, contributes to building a learning society by nurturing the reading culture of young people.
