New traditional theatre to be built in HCM City

A new theatre offering traditional shows aimed at visitors will be built in downtown Ho Chi Minh City in July.

The 180-seat theatre will be located in the Vertical Garden of Rex Hotel in District 1.

The investor, Rex Hotel, has worked with its partner, Thai Duong Performance Company, to build the theatre specialising in traditional performances such as water puppetry, royal dance in Hue style, and cai luong (reformed opera).

The Thai Duong Performance Company owns IDECAF Drama Stage, one of the region’s first and leading private drama troupes.

Phan Thanh Long, General Director of Rex Hotel, said that local authorities had offered support to projects on traditional performances to introduce the culture and lifestyle of Vietnam to visitors.

The theatre’s performances will include subtitles in nine languages, including English, French, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese.

The theatre is expected to open in August.
