Vietnamese students won six gold and two silver medals on December 20, the first day of karate competition, temporarily ranking first in this event of the 13th ASEAN University Games.
The gold medals were carried off in the women's individual and the men's team kata events, and the women's and men's individual and team kumite events.
Eighty-one karate artists from Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Laos, Brunei and Vietnam are competing for 14 sets of medals.
