Authorities in northern Ha Tay province, close to Hanoi, on May 19 held a ceremony to announce the Government's recognition of its Duong Lam ancient village as a national historic relic site.

Representatives from the Japanese Embassy and the Chieu Hoa university, which have helped conduct research and preserve Duong Lam village, joined local leaders and crowds of people at the event.

Duong Lam village now boasts almost 800 ancient homes built with stones and roofed with special designs.

The village is famous as the birthplace of several national heroes, such as Phung Hung in the 8th century and King Ngo Quyen in the 10th century, whose temples are also among the village's eight national relic sites.

Duong Lam is the first ancient village recognised as a national relic site. The provincial administration has announced a project for conservation of the village with a total investment of more than VND200 billion for the period through to 2020.
