Duc Hoa third in Piaya Network Chess Tournament

VOV.VN - Vietnamese player Nguyen Duc Hoa achieved a third place finish at Piaya Network 2017 Negros International Open Chess Tournament in the Philippines on October 19.

In the final match, Vietnam’s Nguyen Duc Hoa, from Can Tho City, defeated Montoyo Ted from the Philippines. Hoa gained a total of 7 points after 9 matches.

With this good result, he has added 4.9 to his Elo, raising his Elo rating to more than 2,500.

The overall winner was the UK’s chess Grandmaster Nigel Short with a total of 8 points after 9 matches.

Other Vietnamese players, Tran Tuan Minh and Tran Minh Thang from Hanoi failed to enter the Top 5. Tran Tuan Minh lost 3 matches, winning 5.5 points after 9, and finished in 12th position.

Tran Minh Thang triumphed over J. Pimentel from the host country, winning 6 points after 9 matches, and placing sixth.

After the tournament, Tran Minh Thang, 17, will compete in the Youth Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships for Boys and Girls U14, U16, U18, in Greece on October 27.
