New Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung expressed his determination to fulfil the task assigned by the Party, State and people by giving priority to building a clean, strong and people-servicing Government. Following is the interview he granted to Nhan Dan newspaper.

Reporter: What is your top priority in the capacity of Prime Minister?

Mr Dung: Becoming the Prime Minister gives me both great honour and heavy task. My top priority is to follow the tenth National Party Congress’s resolution and implement successfully the National Assembly’s resolution on socio-economic development. I will also devote to leading the implementation of the Government’s working programme in the 2002-2007 period presented by former Prime Minister Phan Van Khai at the first session of the eleventh National Assembly.

Reporter: What measures will the Government take to reach rapid and sustainable developments in the coming time?

Mr Dung: The Government members and I will co-ordinate with the whole political system to promote the national strength, accelerate comprehensively the on-going renovation process, mobilise and use effectively all resources, especially internal resource to fulfil the tasks set by the National Assembly for 2006, the first year of the 2006-2010 socio-economic development plan.

The Government will focus on administrative reform in the orientation of building a rule-of-law State and promotion of democracy. Stronger measures will be taken to crack down on corruption, wastefulness and bureaucracy. This is a key factor to build a pure and strong administrative system so as to increase people’s trust and support.

Reporter: What do you think about your new and heavy task?

Mr Dung: I will try my best to realise the task and authority stipulated by the Constitutions so as to up to the Party and National Assembly’s trust worthiness.

I respect the valuable experience drawn by former Prime Minister Phan Van Khai. The Government members and I will promote the collective strength to fullfil the assigned tasks.

I constantly think that I owe all of these to the Party and the people. I pledge to be an example in realising President Ho Chi Minh’s teaching that “cadres should be the people’s servants and must show industriousness, thriftiness, uprightness, public-spiritedness and selflessness, do what is good and avoid what is bad for the people.”

We fully believe in the Party’s leadership, in the supervision, co-ordination and support from the Fatherland Front, mass organisations and press agencies, especially Nhan Dan newspaper known as the central organ of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the voice of the Party, State and people of Vietnam.

Reporter: Thank you very much

Nhan Dan (People)
