HCM City: Work starts on largest ever artificial lake

The Novaland Group on May 18 began work on a lake covering an area of 3.6 hectares in District 2 in Ho Chi Minh City.

The lake, the largest one so far in the city, is part of the Novaland’s Lakeview City urban area project.

The project, with a total investment capital of VND200 billion (US$8.7 million), includes the construction of the lake and a canal system.

Currently, HCM City has 104 irrigation lakes built with the aim to regulate water in the locality, according to Do Tan Long, Head of the water management office under the HCM City Anti-Flood Steering Centre.

The centre is implementing a plan to build 103 irrigation lakes covering a total area of 875 hectares to cope with flooding.

In 2016, the plan will focus on building the first three irrigation lakes Bau Cat in Tan Binh district, Go Dua in Thu Duc district and Khanh Hoi in District 4 at a total cost of VND1.3 trillion (around US$58 million).
