Around 150 students and outstanding overseas Vietnamese youth from 30 nations in the world gathered in HCM City on July 16 to attend the opening ceremony of 2010 Vietnam Summer Camp.

Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Thanh Son, who is also Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, told the students that the Party and State have always paid special attention to overseas Vietnamese youth and believe that they will play an important role in strengthening solidarity, maintaining the Vietnamese language, and preserving traditional Vietnamese customs.

Mr Son expressed hope that the summer camp will enable young Vietnamese people living and studying abroad to improve their Vietnamese language skills and learn more about their fatherland’s history, culture and customs, as well as the Party and State’s guidelines and policies.

The students will visit Thong Nhat (Reunification) Palace and Nha Rong (Dragon House) Wharf, and other historic sites which are closely associated with Vietnam’s struggle for freedom and independence.

2010 Vietnam Summer Camp will continue until August 4 and will include activities celebrating the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi.
