Disabled models to shine at Hanoi fashion show

(VOV) -A first-ever fashion show highlighting the beauty of people with disabilities is set take place at the Italian cultural centre “Casa Italia” (18 Le Phung Hieu Street, Hanoi) at 10 am on November 21 and at a later stage in Danang and Ho Chi Minh City.

Themed “I am beautiful. You too!”, the fashion show is a stepping-stone to change the stereotypes that the society has long associated with disabled people and through which people with disabilities perceive themselves, setting out to establish new perceptions for beauty and professional abilities stemming from diversity and difference.

The event will spotlight designs from 3 famous fashion designers- Diego Chula from Spain, Bianco Levrin from Italy, and Miss Vietnam 2010 Ngoc Han.

The designs- unique combinations of Oriental essences and Western spontaneity- are introduced to the public for the first time.

Speaking at the press conference on November 19, Ngoc Han said the show is designed to use fashion as a language to bring equality to people with disabilities.

The beautiful landscapes of the country will be featured on disabled models’ performance costumes with the aim of giving them more the confidence at the show, she added.

“No matter who you are, man or woman, rich or poor, with or without disabilities. Everyone is born equal in dignity and rights and has the right to be treated with respect and to promote its own values”, says director of Will to Live Centre Nguyen Thi Van.

“I am beautiful. You too!” is organized by Will To Live Centre with the support of the UN Vietnam, the Embassy of Italy, the Australian Embassy and Flunders University, together with the Ideas Design by Ngoc Han and internationally acclaimed fashion brands Chula from Spain and Bianco Levrin from Italy,

Partners of the initiative include Make up Cay Co Vang and Hair Salon Thanh Nguyen.
