Weightlifter Kim Tuan clinches ASIAD17 silver medal

(VOV) -Vietnamese weightlifter Thach Kim Tuan on September 20 snatched a silver medal at the men’s 56kg category of the ongoing Asian Games (ASIAD 17) in the Republic of Korea (RoK).

Tuan, born in 1994, missed a chance to clinch the gold medal although he broke the Asian record in the jerk at 134kg and lifted 294 kg in the snatch.

Gold medal went to Om Yun Chol from the host country as he set a new world record with a total lift of 298kg, or 1kg higher than the previous record made by himself last year.

Meanwhile, in the fencing competition, Nguyen Tien Nhat won a bronze medal in the men’s epee category after being defeated by world defending champion Park Kyoungdoo of the RoK inn the semi-finals. This is the highest results of Vietnamese fencers at the continent’s largest sporting event up to now.

Finishing their first day of competition at the ASIAD 17 on September 20, Vietnamese sportsmen temporarily ranked 9th in the medal tally with two silver and two bronze medals.
