Preparations for PM Phuc's Japan visit under discussion

Ambassador Kunio Umeda said the Japanese side has worked closely with the Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs to make thorough preparations for the trip aiming to facilitate the signing of numerous cooperation agreements and projects for mutual benefit.

He said his country desires to invest in energy projects in Vietnam such as environmentally friendly coal-fired or liquefied natural gas-fired electric power plants.

In the area of support industry, Japan is ready to help Vietnam in auto industry with a focus on small-and medium-sized enterprises, he said, informing that a delegation of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will travel to Vietnam to discuss the issue with several Vietnamese agencies. 

Responding to PM Nguyen Xan Phuc’s request for assistance in climate change adaptation, the Ambassador said Japan is studying the possibility of helping Vietnam build irrigation systems to ensure production during dry seasons. He also suggested that the Vietnamese Government continue to improve institutions to increase the efficiency in using water resources.

Vietnam always attaches great importance to strengthening the strategic partnership with Japan, Phuc told the Japanese diplomat.

During the visit, PM Phuc is scheduled to hold talks with his counterpart Shinzo Abe and meet with leaders of Japan’s National Diet and political parties.

He will also attend and deliver speeches at the Asia Future Conference and an investment promotion conference, during which the leader will extend a message on the new investment environment in Vietnam as well as the role played by the Vietnamese Government.
