Russia, Vietnam seek stronger judicial ties

Chief Judge of the Supreme People's Court Truong Hoa Binh suggested Vietnam and Russia further tighten their long-lasting friendship, and called for Russia’s support at international forums.

During his reception for Russian Justice Minister Alexander Konovalov in Hanoi on November 20, Binh highlighted the fine development of the relations between the two countries and their judicial sector, affirming that this has helped deepen the Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Cooperation.

The two sides shared experience in the fields of law-making and justice.

The host briefed the guest on Vietnam’s judicial reform, stressing that it brought important changes to the country’s court system.

Vietnam promulgated the 2013 Constitution, which was revised on the basis of the 1992 version, Binh cited, adding that the Vietnamese National Assembly adopted the 2014 Law on the Organisation of People’s Courts to concretise the Constitution.

Konovalov praised recent achievements made by Vietnam in its judicial reform process, affirming that his country is willing to share its experience with and provide materials for Vietnam in the field, especially those related to the Civil Code and the Code of Civil Procedures.

On the same day, Minister of Justice Ha Hung Cuong also held talks with his Russian counterpart A.V Konovalov, during which they agreed that the two ministries’ cooperation will contribute to consolidating the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership.

The ministers affirmed that the two countries’ relation in the law and judicial fields has experienced strong development.

They briefed each other on their respective countries’ legal and judicial reforms.

They also exchanged views on the building of several laws of Vietnam, including the revised Penal Code and the revised Criminal Procedure Code, as well as the training of Vietnamese judicial officers through organising courses biannually.

The Russian minister was also welcomed by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, during which Minister Konovalov pledged that his country’s judicial sector will actively contribute to developing the bilateral relations.

Konovalov is on a three-day working visit to Vietnam starting from November 19, with a view to promoting judicial links between the two countries.
