Vietnam, Mozambique promote ties

(VOV) - Vietnam and Mozambique show their strong determination to foster cooperation in different fields on par with sound traditional friendship relations over the last 40 years.

The consensus was reached at the talks between Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai and Mozambique Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho Do Rosario on July 30.

PM Rosario welcomed the Vietnamese high-ranking government delegation led by Deputy PM Hai to Mozambique and considered as a special event to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

They briefed each other of the two countries’ situation and expressed their delight at fine development of bilateral cooperative relations in different fields.

They agreed to further accelerate exchange visits, coordinate and provide mutual support at international forums and organisations.

On the occasion, Hai conveyed an invitation of President Truong Tan Sang and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung to the Mozambique President and Prime Minister to visit Vietnam.

PM Rosario and Deputy PM Hai said that total trade volume between Mozambique and Vietnam is still far below the two countries’ potential and decided to lift economic ties into a new height for mutual benefit.

They pledged to create a niche for ministries and businesses to cooperate and invest in agriculture, telecommunications, seafood, and education and to further bolster cooperate in the fields that Mozambique needs such as the application of science to technology, hydrometeorological forecasting and disaster warning.

The success of Movitel – a joint venture between Vietnamese telecommunications group Viettel and Mozambique's SPI company, has created a motive for Vietnamese businesses to invest in the market.

On the same day, Hai met with leaders of Mozambique Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

During the meetings, Mozambique officials said their country wants to share with Vietnam experience in infrastructure building, maritime logistics, shipbuilding, telecommunications, the application of science to technology, hydrometeorological forecasting and disaster warning.

Hai asserted that Vietnam is willing to give grants and scholarships to Mozambique students to study in agriculture and telecommunications in the country.

The two sides agreed to exchange information about their markets, devise specific measures to boost trade ties and encourage cooperation between businesses from the two countries.
