The inauguration ceremony for Vietnam’s largest wood-processing factory was held by the Scansia Pacific Company in the Tan Tao Vinatex industrial park, Nhon Trach district, Dong Nai province on October 9.

On a site of 175,000 square metres, the factory has a total investment capital of US$20 million and will be built in three phases. In the first phase, the factory is forecast to produce 100-120 wooden containers per month and once fully operational, it will produce 300 containers per month with a total workforce of 3,000.

Director of the Scansia Pacific Company, Nguyen Chien Thang said that currently, on average, the company is exporting 150 containers per month to many markets in the world. The company’s total turnover in 2006 was more than VND 165 billion and is expected to reach VND256 billion in 2007.

Once fully completed, the factory in Dong Nai will account for two-thirds of the company’s total output, meeting the requirements of major customers and reaching a turnover of US$60 million per year by 2010.

Scansia Pacific is one of the first factories in Vietnam to be awarded the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification.
