Thailand hosts ASP Workshop 2016

The 3rd Asia Soil Partnership Workshop has begun to strengthen the collaboration between countries and plan a regional scheme. 

The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives together with thr Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, or FAO, has organized the Asian Soil Partnership 2016 from 14-16 December. The theme “Towards a Regional Implementation Plan for Asia” was announced, having as its goal sustainably resolving soil problems and defining a common standard. 

The workshop also allows soil management experts and representatives of 24 member countries to exchange information and suggest innovations for further application in each country. 

FAO Regional Representative, Jong Jin Kim said that the organization aims to promote sustainable soil management and raise public awareness of the issue, as soil is an important component of the ecosystem. 

General Patamapong Prathompat, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, also revealed that on this occasion, the ministry is planning to promote the concept of a sufficiency economy and new theory farming, to be included in the regional action plan as well. 

Participants will visit the Khao Hin Son Development Education Center at Chacheongsao province to observe the research on soil resource development of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol, as part of the workshop.
