The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will fund the construction of two China-Vietnam cross-border economic cooperation zones.

The decision was announced at a recent meeting between UNDP representatives and officials of the China International Centre for Economic and Technical Exchanges (CIETE) held in the southern Chinese city of Nanning.

One of these zones will be built across Pingxiang of Guangxi, southern China, and the Vietnamese province of Lang Son, and the other across Honghe of Yunnan, southwestern China, and the Vietnamese province of Lao Cai.

Renaud Meyer, UNDP Deputy Representative to China, said the project will not only promote local economic development, but also help reduce poverty in the region.
