Vietnam, Australia boost mining cooperation

(VOV) - Mining industry professionals from Vietnam and Australia gathered at a seminar on June 29 in Hanoi to get updated on the latest trends and technology advances in the industry.

The event also provided participants from both countries a good occasion to discuss opportunities for cooperation in developing the nation’s mining industry in an environmentally friendly and sustainable fashion.

Professor David Mulligan- an expert with 25 years of mining research experience said Vietnam is considered a country rich in mineral resources and that mining would play a key role in the nation’s economic growth in the future.

He proposed a joint initiative to improve the public’s awareness on the importance of good management practices for the conservation and preservation of land, water and the environment.

Tran Hong Ha, deputy minister of Natural Resources and Environment in turn dilated on the advantages that cooperation with Australia has for Vietnamese businesses in the industry.

The state is currently devising a long-term development plan Ha said, which with the assistance of Australia would help mining businesses raise funds for investment in advanced technology and revamped management methods.
