Vietnam rice prices remain unchanged from last week

VOV.VN - Rice prices from the summer-autumn crop on the Vietnamese markets remained subdued in the first week of the new year, traders have reported.

Traders in Vietnam, the globe’s third-largest exporter of the grain, quoted 5% broken rice at US$335-US$345 per metric ton, free-on-board basis, unchanged from a week ago.

One Vietnamese trader reported that buyers are still in a holiday mood and he doesn’t expect any changes for another week.

Last year, rice exports of Vietnam fell an estimated 25.8% from 2015 to 4.88 million metric tons, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has said.

Meanwhile, the Asian rice export market was quiet this past week, with prices in Thailand and India dropping on low demand.

India, Thailand and Vietnam together account for around 60% of global rice trade.
