Fruit exports to US, Japan up 80%

VOV.VN - Vietnam shipped more than 4,608 tons of fruit to demanding markets like the US, Japan, the Republic of Korea and New Zealand during the first half of this year, up 81% against the corresponding period last year, according to the Plantation Protection Department.

The department attributed the upturn in export value to better disease controls on fruit and veggie, ensured quality of products and higher demands in key export markets.

It is predicted that exports of fresh fruit will continue to rise in the coming time which is a right time for harvest season. Besides, other fruits like mango and star-apples have been granted licences to export to some other demanding markets.

It took Vietnam 12 years to obtain licenses to export lychees to Australia, five years to export Cat Chu mango to Japan and eight years to export dragon fruit to Taiwan (China).
