Vietnam star apple officially enters US market

VOV.VN - The US Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has announced in the Federal Register that Vietnam star apple has officially been accepted to enter the US market as from January 19, 2017.

APHIS gave its decision after completing a pest risk analysis on imports of fresh star apple fruit into the continental US.

It concluded that Vietnam star apple is safe to be imported into the US if it follows some designated phytosanitary measures to mitigate the risks of introducing or disseminating plant pests or noxious weeds through star apple imports.

Currently, star apple fruit is in harvesting season. The Vietnam Trade Office in the US advised domestic businesses to prepare to meet all necessary quarantine and packing conditions before exporting the fruit to the market.

The US has so far accepted to import five Vietnamese fruits, namely dragon fruit, rambutan, lychee, longan and star apple.
