PM requests sufficient power supply for domestic use in 2024

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has requested that relevant ministries, sectors and localities draw up plans to ensure a sufficient supply of power for business production and people’s daily use this year, especially during the peak season in summer.

Chairing a Government meeting on power supply in Hanoi on April 20, the PM noted that the national economy is gathering full steam, thereby fueling demand for power consumption across the country. In addition, pressure continues to grow when power demand for business production and people’s daily use is increasing sharply during the summer months.

He recalled power shortages last year which resulted in periodical power cuts at different time frames in many localities, including Hanoi, causing a great loss to business production and impacting people’s lives.

He asked relevant ministries, sectors, and localities to learn from last year’s lessons and proactively work out power supply plans for the remainder of the year.

“You must have contingency plans for the worst-case scenario. The ultimate goal is to ensure sufficient power supply for business production and people’s daily use,” the PM ordered.

Speaking at the meeting, a representative of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) that governs power production and supply reported that the Ministry has approved the adjustment of the power supply plan for the peak months during the dry season, as well as the whole year. Accordingly, the electricity load is anticipated to rise by 10.4%, or 1.25% higher than originally planned.

The Ministry has closely monitored the supply of coal and gas for power generation. It has also co-ordinated efforts with Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) to review the preparation of power production, transmission, and distribution of all power generation units in the dry season.

Along with the supply of fuels, especially coal, for power generation, the national electricity grid will basically supply enough electricity for socio-economic development, as well as the needs of citizens for most of the year, said the MoIT representative.
