Vietnam, China to conduct joint patrol in Tonkin Gulf

The Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy and the Vietnam People’s Navy will conduct a joint patrol in the Gulf of Tonkin in December, announced spokesperson of the National Defence Ministry of China Wu Qian.

Speaking at the regular press conference of the National Defence Ministry of China on November 30, Wu said the two sides will launch communication and joint rescue drills during the patrol.

The spokesperson also reiterated that China highly values military relations with Vietnam and is willing to maintain stability and order in the Gulf of Tonkin and the shared fishing waters, as well as develop healthy and stable bilateral military cooperation.

The patrol will be the 23rd of its kind between the two countries’ navies in the Gulf of Tonkin, in line with the bilateral agreement on conducting joint patrol in the shared fishing area in the gulf twice a year.
